Few things are as frustrating as getting into your Jeep on a cold winter's day and finding it won't start. You pop the hood and see that your battery is dead, a victim of the cold weather. Like most folks, you know you can't start a motor vehicle without a battery feeding the engine, helping it turn over. So what should you do? If you can, get a set of cables or a battery pack to jumpstart your Jeep, and then head over to The Faricy Boys. We are your solution for top-notch Jeep winter battery service.
Your vehicle's battery is a truly unsung part of your vehicle's powertrain. For your Jeep to be able to start, you must have a battery with sufficient charge. At The Faricy Boys, we carry replacement batteries for every Jeep model and many other vehicles. Our team of battery specialists will be able to determine if your battery can be recharged or if it will need to be replaced.
Sometimes, the cells on a battery will wear out. This is especially true if you have an older car. If it turns out that there is nothing wrong with the battery, then a dead battery could be an indication of a bigger problem, such as a short in your vehicle's electrical system. By taking your Jeep to our service department, you will know that your vehicle and its battery will be taken care of properly. You will also know that you can find the correct battery for your Jeep if it turns out that it needs to be replaced.
Cold weather is not kind to car batteries. This is especially true here in Colorado, where we get our fair share of cold, dry days during the late fall and winter months. To understand why the cold is bad for your battery, you need to know how your Jeep's battery functions.
Your battery contains a lead-acid chemical solution that reacts to create and hold a charge. This chemical energy charge is converted to the electrical energy used to crank the starting motor, which turns on your vehicle's engine, and power electrical systems. Once your engine is running, the alternator will return the electric charge produced by the engine to recharge the battery. When this cycle works, you can get up to seven years of life out of your car battery.
However, cold weather adversely affects the chemicals in your battery. As temperatures drop, your battery will hold a smaller charge and deliver less energy to the starter motor. If your battery is aging and barely provides enough power on a warm day, a cold morning may render it non-functional. The fact that you have to use the lights and heating system more frequently during the winter can also result in draining the battery's charge more quickly. As you can see, winter is not your car battery's friend.
The simplest way to keep your battery charged is to drive your vehicle often. Letting it sit for long periods of time can cause the battery to lose charge. If you don't use your car that often, you should take it on a long drive at least once per week. Driving your car, truck, or SUV for at least 30 minutes will allow the alternator to recharge the battery. If you don't have the time to do this, simply running the engine once a week for at least 15 minutes can help keep the battery charged. Just make sure that when you do this, you have turned off the headlights and other features that drain electricity, like the stereo or infotainment system.
One way to keep your battery charged when you aren't driving your Jeep is to use a trickle charger. This will let you top off your battery while it is parked. If you have a garage, pull your Jeep inside, hook up the trickle charger to a dedicated outlet, and follow the instructions to connect it to the correct terminals on your vehicle's battery. You should have a full charge in your battery the next time you go for a car. Trickle chargers are a particularly good investment if you have a Jeep you only use during good weather and store during the winter.
If you have access to a garage, it is a good idea to use it to park your vehicle during particularly cold days. Not only will this help keep your battery warmer. It will also shield your Jeep from getting damaged by heavy snow or sleet on days of inclement winter weather. Also, it will help you save your own energy from having to clean off your vehicle from all the snow.
The Faricy Boys is the place to go to have your car battery replaced. Even if you think your battery is still good, we recommend visiting us for a battery health check before each winter to make sure you won't wake up one cold morning without the ability to start your vehicle. It is always better to replace your battery before it fails instead of waiting for roadside assistance in a Colorado snowstorm.
Replacing a battery is not an easy task, especially for someone without any experience. For one thing, car batteries contain toxic chemicals and must be disposed of properly. We can take care of this for you. Also, you have to get the right size and type of battery for your Jeep. Even if it fits the battery compartment in your vehicle, it may not be the right one for you to use for your particular car, truck, or SUV. If the battery is too small, it is more likely to run out of charge and may even be unable to start your car, particularly on colder days.
You want to know that you are working with a shop that has the right selection of replacement batteries. We carry replacement batteries for all makes and models, especially Jeep vehicles. As an authorized Jeep dealership, we use only certified Mopar parts. This includes proper car batteries. By bringing your Jeep to The Faricy Boys, you know your battery replacement will be done right without any hassles.
