Kids are wonderful, but they do a great job of reminding you that the things you did before them may not fly once they arrive. Your car is a perfect example. When it was just you and your spouseā€”and maybe a dogā€”a small vehicle like a sedan was probably just what you needed. But, once you start having to deal with bulky car seats and massive diaper bags, youā€™ll quickly discover that a little car just isnā€™t going to cut it anymore. This doesnā€™t mean, however, that you have to start shopping for minivans. While those are perfectly fine vehicles, if youā€™re looking for something that doesnā€™t just scream ā€œfamily vehicle,ā€ going with an SUV could be the wiser choice. There are a number of great used Jeeps for sale in Colorado Springs here at The Faricy Boys, but which is best for your needs? Here, we will take a look at several models and what they each offer.

#1 – Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass is a compact SUV, but this doesnā€™t mean that itā€™s small. It has a sizable cabin with room for five people. You may be especially pleased with all of the cargo room. The second-generation Compass, which was introduced in 2017, has 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back row and 59.8 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded. Cloth upholstery is standard, but the upper trims have leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

A family car has to be tech-savvy, right? More recent pre-owned Compass models come with quite a few advanced components, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and multiple USB ports. The 2022 model year introduced an even more user-friendly infotainment system that includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen and voice recognition.

We canā€™t fail to mention that the Compass is fuel-efficient and fun to drive. Under the hood of the 2023 and later models is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 24 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway. This SUV handles nicely, andā€”like all Jeepsā€”you can take it off paved roads. Four-wheel drive is available, and the rugged Trailhawk trim has lots of off-road features, including all-terrain tires, skid plates, and hill descent control.

#2 – Jeep Grand Cherokee

If youā€™re looking for something a little bigger, a used Jeep Grand Cherokee could be perfect. This is a midsize model with lots of headroom and legroom inside, and it comfortably fits five people. You will also have no problem fitting strollers, large bags, or whatever else you need to travel with. The latest generation, which hit roads in 2022, offers 37.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 70.8 cubic feet when the back seats are folded down. Cloth upholstery comes standard, while upper trims include heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and even a massage feature.

You and your family will love all of the high-tech amenities found in a newer pre-owned Grand Cherokee. Satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are found in every model from 2022 and later. Push-button start and an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen are also standard, with a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen available as an option. You can find used models with navigation, wireless device charging, a front passenger screen, and even a rear-seat entertainment system.

Like the Compass, the Grand Cherokee has a lot of muscle. The base 2022 model is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. While rear-wheel drive is standard, many used models have four-wheel drive, which makes this SUV off-road-ready. It can also come with an adaptive air suspension, a limited-slip differential, and an integrated off-road camera.

#3 – Jeep Grand Cherokee L

If you have a big family, a five-seater may not give you what you need. In this case, it pays to go with a three-row SUV like the big Grand Cherokee L, which was introduced in 2021. While it has many of the same features as the Grand Cherokee, they are presented in a larger package. It can fit up to seven people with a second-row bench seat, and even taller folks wonā€™t mind sitting in the back.

Plus, the cargo room is downright cavernous, with 17.2 cubic feet behind the third row, 46.9 cubic feet when itā€™s down, and 84.6 cubic feet when all rear seats are folded. This SUV is designed to keep you comfortable, and the standard cloth-covered seats are well-cushioned. Upper trims come with comfort features like massaging front seats, driverā€™s seat memory settings, and ventilated front seats.

The Grand Cherokee L is also big on technology. Every model has keyless entry, push-button start, and multiple USB ports. The infotainment system includes either an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreen. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and HD and satellite radio are also included. Features like a front passenger interactive display, navigation, and a 19-speaker stereo can be found in upper trims.

You are going to really enjoy having the Grand Cherokee L as a daily driver. Despite its size, it has great agility, and its suspension is designed to soak up most road flaws. Plus, its power truly impresses; its available 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine generates 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Like the other SUVs on this list, the Grand Cherokee L is a fantastic off-roader. Several trims come with all sorts of goodies, including an air suspension to get more ground clearance, four-wheel drive, and a Selec-Terrain traction management system with modes specifically for rock, snow, and mud.

Available Advanced Safety Systems

Aside from space, tech, and drivability, safety should also be on your list when looking for a vehicle for your family vehicle. Fortunately, this is another strong suit of all of these used Jeep models. More recent examples come with the following driver-assist systems:

  • Lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist: With these features, your vehicle will alert you if you drift out of your lane without signaling. If this was done unintentionally, it can steer itself back where it needs to be.
  • Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking: Your SUV will monitor the road ahead and alert you if it detects a potential collision with a vehicle or pedestrian. It can then apply the brakes automatically if you donā€™t react in time.
  • Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert: With blind-spot monitoring, you will always know if cars are in the spots you canā€™t see with your mirrors. Rear cross-traffic alert uses sensors to detect vehicles coming from either side, which gives you reassurance when backing up.

Both the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L also have rear parking sensors and rear-seat alert.
