If you’re looking for Jeeps for Sale in Colorado Springs, you will likely hear about the 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler is a flagship of the Jeep family, and arguably one of the most off-road versatile SUVs on the market. From the incredible ground clearance to the fact that every trim rolls off of the factory floor ready for at least some light trail riding, the Jeep Wrangler is undoubtedly a popular pick at our showroom. At The Faricy Boys Colorado Springs, we know a thing or two about our Jeep models, particularly when it comes to the Jeep Wrangler. Because of this, many of our drivers visit our dealership, asking what the difference is between the various trim levels in the faJeep Wrangler lineup, especially when it comes to the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Fortunately, we’ve put together this brief blog post to give you an idea of the characteristics that separate these two powerful and rugged SUVs.

The Success of the Jeep Wrangler

Before we delve into the details that divide up the 2020 Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, we figured it’d be a good idea to give you a brief overview of why the Jeep Wrangler model has earned so much success over the years. While the Jeep Wrangler has been on the road since 1986, the styling of this flagship SUV is quite old. There is a reason why the Jeep Wrangler stands out on the road compared to other so-called ‘rugged SUVs.’ It’s modeled after an SUV that took to the battlefields of Europe way back in World War II. The Jeep Wrangler owes a lot of its body styling to the military vehicles manufactured for Allied forces. These all-terrain vehicles could tread over the battered countryside with ease, and after the end of the war, saw plenty of recreational appeals. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler continues to uphold this brand story, thanks to some serious build quality and off-road gear.

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is a titan of the trail, with base models having an incredible ground clearance of 10.0”. Each model comes packed with a 4×4 drivetrain that can hold its own on some of the toughest off-road routes in Colorado Springs. Higher trims capitalize on the basic offering of off-road gear with additions like beefy off-road tires, hardy skid plates, and locking differentials. Off-roading in the Jeep Wrangler is unlike anything else on the road today, mainly because many models allow you to remove the doors and windows and enjoy a genuinely open-air driving experience. Few vehicles give you the chance to get as close to the outdoors as the Jeep Wrangler, and things have only gotten better over the years.

For instance, the 2020 model of the Jeep Wrangler included a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine into the powertrain lineup. As a result, drivers could take advantage of an off-road SUV with much more oomph behind each touch of the accelerator. Joining this turbodiesel engine was a mild-hybrid eTorque system that introduced start and stops functionality and incredible low-speed power delivery. As a result, the Jeep Wrangler became even more versatile than before. And in the Rubicon trim model, drivers could take advantage of 33-inch off-road tires, a much more capable suspension, and disconnecting sway bars. While it’s easy to see how the Jeep Wrangler garners plenty of appeal amongst some of our local drivers in Colorado Springs, many are curious about the differences between the Unlimited and non-Unlimited models. Fortunately, we’re here to answer that frequently asked question.

Two-Door vs Four-Door

What’s the difference between the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited? Well, a significant characteristic is that the Jeep Wrangler is a two-door vehicle that seats four passengers, and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is a four-door version that has the capacity for five. While this may seem like a minute difference, the addition of another set of doors can dramatically change your overall driving experience with the Jeep Wrangler.

Another significant difference between these two types of Jeep models is the fact that the Jeep Wrangler is a little cheaper than the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The Jeep Wrangler has a starting price of $28,295 MSRP while the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited starts at $31,795 MSRP. This price difference may deter some drivers from the Unlimited model, but the extra expense makes sense as you’re technically paying for more cars.

It is worth noting that rear-passengers in the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will get to enjoy a whole lot more room than those in the two-door Wrangler. As a result, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is much better at moving people than the two-door model. Although, there are still some major benefits to choosing the smaller model.

The two-door Jeep Wrangler handles a lot tighter than the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, particularly when you trade the pavement for the dirt. From a better turning radius to only having less car to deal with, the two-door version of the Jeep Wrangler is much more nimble when put to the task of off-roading. Although, if you have plans to spend more time on the road than off of it, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited might be the better fit.

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited can haul much more than its two-door counterpart, with a max hauling capacity of 3,500 pounds. Meanwhile, the two-door Jeep Wrangler can only pull 2,000 pounds of tailgate cargo. Speaking of cargo, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited larger cabin makes for far more room to transport luggage, which can be a big deal for plenty of SUV lovers. On top of that, in the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, you’ll be making far fewer stops at the gas station thanks to a much bigger fuel tank. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited can hold up to 21.5 gallons of fuel, while its two-door sibling can only hold 17.5 gallons.

So, which of these two Jeep Wranglers is the superior choice? Well, it depends on what you’re looking for and what you expect out of your SUV experience. If you prioritize spacing, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited may be the better choice. However, if you’re looking for a truly traditional Jeep off-road experience, the two-door Jeep Wrangler may offer up the most satisfaction.
