The New Jeep Wrangler and Compass Have Arrived

For the more casual driver or those who simply want to learn more about the latest Jeep vehicles, there’s no shortage of information you’ve likely seen on the internet yet. The 2022 Jeep Wrangler
The Wrangler is a feat of engineering. While those who own the 2021 Wrangler may not see the need to upgrade, the 2022 Wrangler is recommendable to just about everybody else. Something the Wrangler has been well known for over the years is giving shoppers a pure Jeep off-roading experience that costs far less than some of its siblings. To set the stage, the 2022 Wrangler has a starting price of $29,995, so although it isn’t the cheapest vehicle in the lineup, it’s still far cheaper than the likes of the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Gladiator, and many more.[a] It’s worth noting again that the hype behind the 2022 Wrangler stems from those who don’t own a more recent model, but the hype is always deserved for the titular Wrangler.
One of the most exciting aspects of Fountain, Colorado, is the sheer volume of trails to conquer. Whether you’re looking to travel on the Rampart Range Road or hoping to climb Mt. Herman, your Wrangler will thrive at the opportunity. Jeep vehicles and Colorado go hand-in-hand, and it’s somewhat of an obvious choice to purchase a Jeep vehicle if off-roading is your thing and you live in or around the Fountain, Colorado area. What helps the Wrangler achieve such success off the beaten path is a standard 4×4 system featuring a 4Hi and 4Lo transfer case.
As for the engines powering the latest Wrangler, it’s the same setup as last year. This means that a 3.6L V6 engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission is standard, and this powertrain provides drivers with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. That’s right—a manual transmission is standard, which may be a massive appeal to some potential shoppers. If manual transmissions aren’t your thing, however, then don’t fret because an 8-speed automatic transmission is optional with this V6 engine.
Should you opt for the available turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission will come standard. The massive appeal behind this turbocharged engine is its 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, but most importantly, it’s complemented by impressive EPA-estimated ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Thanks to these numbers, you won’t have to be restricted to Fountain with this vehicle. You can travel to Denver via I-25 N and won’t have to worry too much about frequent visits to the pump. A brief honorable mention for the Wrangler—should you spring for the Wrangler Rubicon 392, you’ll not only get one of the greatest off-roading experiences that Jeep has ever created, but you’ll receive a striking 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, plus the ability to accelerate to 60 mph in only 4.5-seconds.
The 2022 Jeep Compass
Why do we recommend the Jeep Compass? A more legitimate question is, why wouldn’t we recommend the Compass? The Jeep Compass is, for lack of a better term, a technological showstopper. As for the performance, that’s serviceable too. Every 2022 Compass will come equipped with a 2.4L I-4 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, although a 9-speed automatic is also available. With this powertrain, you’ll get a respectable 177 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque for the 2.4L I-4 engine, which is surprisingly fuel-efficient with EPA-estimated ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway. You won’t be conquering the same types of trails with the Compass as you would with the Wrangler, but for lighter off-roading tasks, and even with its entry-level towing cap of 2,000 lbs, it’s a fantastic vehicle at a low price.
As for the technology we mentioned, the 2022 Compass doesn’t just include a feature-rich infotainment center with a large screen; it comes standard with one. The MSRP of $26,390 may not give off the impression you’d get a premium-feeling infotainment center, but that’s exactly what you get with the Compass and its 8.4-inch screen.[a] Not only that, but this infotainment center features the wireless variants of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is inevitably vastly superior to the old methods of tethering your phone via USB.
Aside from all of the incredible apps and hands-free phone features that your infotainment center will offer with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it’s the built-in navigation that will become your travel companion. If you’re not too familiar with Denver and you’re looking to make the drive over from Fountain, then you’ll not only have turn-by-turn navigation, but it can recommend places for you to visit by speaking with your virtual assistant such as Siri. Or, vice versa, and you’re looking to visit Fountain, CO, and the rest of Colorado Springs, you’ll be able to find some good restaurants on and around Lake Ave, and you can find all of these places via your infotainment center.
Worth the Hype (But Consider This)
Jeep vehicles are special, and if you’ve never owned one before, now is the time. However, based on what we’ve discussed with the Wrangler and Compass, both of these vehicles are easy to recommend to a wide range of driver types, but again, you have to think about what you’re truly looking for in a new vehicle. If you’re coming from a 2021 Wrangler, for example, then there’d be no logistical reason to upgrade just yet. If you’re coming from an older Wrangler and are looking to modernize the experience you’ve come to love so much, then the Wrangler is the way to go. The Compass, on the other hand, is easy to recommend because of its overarching value. Tech, safety, and decent performance are all to be expected with the Compass, and like the Wrangler, these two vehicles should be on the wishlist of any driver in or around Fountain, CO.
