The Jeep Gladiator Opens Up Like No Other Truck

Whether you’re looking to leave civilization behind and hit the trail or haul some lumber to a job site, there’s no other truck on the road (and off it) quite like the Jeep Gladiator. As a Jeep Gladiator dealer, you might think we’re a bit biased, and while it’s safe to say that we probably are, we’re also simply stating facts based on what the Gladiator can do. While other trucks are busy fighting over a few extra pounds of towing or ride heights that make them impractical to get in and out of, Jeep has created a pickup with an open-air design unlike any other.

A big part of what sets the Gladiator apart from its competition, and reinforces the fact that this isn’t just any pickup but that it’s a Jeep pickup, is its open-air design. Much of this comes down to three things: the windshield, the roof, and the doors––specifically, the kinds of options you have regarding the top and doors. It’s easy to overlook these things, but if you want an amazing off-road truck, then you deserve to be able to really feel each moment on the trail and enjoy everything the great outdoors has to offer. All About the Removable Doors

The open-air design of the Jeep Gladiator isn’t just something that happened by accident; it was a deliberate effort to create a truck that lived up to the amazing Jeep legacy for off-road, Trail-Rated models. There’s no denying that this design was inspired and informed in large part by the look and design of the Jeep Wrangler, arguably the most iconic off-road vehicle ever made. While the Gladiator delivers functionality and capability that you can only find with a truck, its look is unmistakably Jeep, and a large part of that is due to its removable doors.

One of the most popular features of the Jeep Wrangler is the fact that you can easily remove its doors to open up the interior while out on the trail. The Gladiator follows in this tradition with its own removable doors, which are made from lightweight aluminum to ensure they protect you well but are easy to take off and replace. All you have to do is use the TORX toolkit that comes with every Gladiator, and the doors can be removed or reattached quickly and easily, even if you’re out on the trail. These come standard, so you don’t have to pay extra to ensure you can open up the Gladiator and feel the breeze.

New for the 2022 model year, however, Jeep has added a Mopar Door-Off Mirror Kit as an available option if you’re interested in doing a lot of driving without the doors. This provides you with a pair of side mirrors that you can easily install once the doors are removed, so you can open up your Gladiator but maintain great visibility. They even have a breakaway feature so that if you’re in a tight spot while maneuvering and the side mirrors strike something, they will come away rather than damaging your truck. That’s not the only new option on the Jeep Gladiator for the 2022 model year.

New for 2022: Available Half Doors

The Mopar Door-Off Mirror Kit is great, but the new feature we’re most excited about is the half doors offered as part of the Dual Door Group on the 2022 Gladiator. Choosing this Group provides you with a full set of both full doors with power glass windows, as well as new half doors. These half doors are available with standard upper doors, or you can choose a premium upper door for a nicer look, or simply go with no upper doors to really keep things simple and open all the time. Some drivers are content to simply roll their windows down, but if you really want to feel the wind on your face but still have some lower protection, these half doors can’t be beat.

Perhaps best of all, choosing the half doors on your Gladiator doesn’t mean you miss out on any impressive features. They still function with power locks, feature power and heated side mirrors on them, and function with the remote keyless entry feature of the Gladiator. This means you can have your truck as open to the outdoors as you like while still taking advantage of everything this impressive pickup has to offer.

Three Fantastic Tops to Choose From

The removable doors are only part of the equation when it comes to being able to open up your Jeep Gladiator. Another part is the selection of tops available on it. You have three choices available to you, and all three are fantastic: it really comes down to what you prefer. Standard on all Gladiator models is a Sunrider Soft Top, which features an easy-to-use zipperless design that has spring-loaded support bars to let it simply glide open. Made from heavy-duty, waterproof cloth, it comes in black; an upgrade to a Premium Sunrider Soft Top features higher-grade materials for that extra touch of sophistication.

If you’re not a fan of soft tops, however, then there’s an available Freedom Top Modular Hardtop for the Jeep Gladiator. This is a three-piece hardtop that is lightweight and easy to remove, letting you open up the Gladiator in a variety of ways. You can remove all three sections for a full open-air feel or simply remove the two front panels to let in some sun and air without going all-in. This hardtop is available in black, or you can get it in a matching body color, depending on which Gladiator model you choose.

New for 2022, the Gladiator now also has a Sunrider Flip Top option for the hardtop if you like having some flexibility, but you don’t want to mess with numerous panels. This Sunrider Flip Top replaces the two front panels with a soft top that you can easily open and close by simply folding it back, which opens up the front but leaves the rear sets covered. All of these options give you greater freedom to open the cabin and feel the sun warm your skin as a cool mist teases your face while splashing through a creek in your Jeep.

A Windshield Unlike Any Other

Of course, this wouldn’t truly be an open-air Jeep without one final detail: a fold-down windshield that eliminates the final obstacle between you and the great outdoors. This aluminum-framed windshield is strong yet easy to unfasten, fold down, and secure to the hood using available straps to ensure it does not come up while driving. To ensure your windshield stays in great condition, there’s an available Corning Gorilla Glass windshield now offered for the 2022 model year, creating great ways to feel the outdoors and protect your vehicle against rocks and other hazards of the trail.

All of these features combine to create a truck unlike any other. Beyond its impressive capabilities, like best-in-class towing of up to 7,650 lbs, the Gladiator is simply in a league of its own.
