Jeep Wrangler (4th Generation)

Many modern cars go for a smooth, pod-looking, aerodynamic design. While there is no denying the modern vehicle has its own appeal, the commonality makes many cars look almost identical. The Wrangler, for better or worse, manages to keep its identity through its unique, boxy design. Its aesthetics are relics of the past as it was the first model Jeep to be made. The classic look has been around since the 40s, emerging from the World War II era.

Jeeps were made during a time when highways and roads did not cover all of the US. They were made with the idea of off-road driving. Wranglers were, and still are, one of the best vehicles designed for off-road traveling. Their suspensions and tires are made for just that. Some people like to enjoy their time off-roading as a sport. We think that says something about how off-road capable Wranglers are if people willingly put them in ditches for fun! To add to its already distinguished look, the Wrangler has some of the most customizations in terms of exterior appearance. They come with a soft top or hard top making them great for year-long weather. They will provide coverage from the winter and won’t get snowed in, and in the summer, the top comes off for the weekend beach trips. Additionally, the Wrangler comes in 2 or 4-door options. On top of that, Wranglers are not limited to the same typical colors most manufacturers offer. With purple, blue, and multiple shades of green as some of the colors available, there is bound to be a color for everyone!

As the years go by, each generation of cars seems to come with so many new features. That is fine for those who want it, but whatever happened to simplicity? This is another area in which the Jeep Wrangler excels at. We value simplicity for the sake of simplicity. They are not jam-packed with all sorts of gadgets and equipment. Some Wranglers don’t even come with AC! Many also do not rely on power windshield motors. They have the crank. Thanks to its straightforward nature, there is no worry about paying for unnecessary items people might not want/need. Jeep Grand Cherokee (4th Generation)

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is Jeep’s luxury brand vehicle. The car is known for its well-designed interior, as well as its performance as an SUV. Unlike the Wrangler, the Grand Cherokee does not aim for simplicity. Instead, they go all out. This car has many desirable features for those who want more comfort in their Jeep. With heated seating, touchscreen infotainment, reclining rear seats that also fold up, and a sunroof, this car comes jam-packed with all sorts of features designed to maximize your driving enjoyment. With so many luxuries, the Grand Cherokee is designed for Jeep lovers with discernible taste.

If interior features were the only thing this car offers, it wouldn’t have been such a stand-out model among its peers. The Grand Cherokee is not a luxury vehicle that is all cost and no performance. 4th generation models (2011 and up) come standard with a 290 hp (horsepower) 3.6-liter V6 engine. Previous generations came standard with a 210 hp 3.7-liter V6 engine. Not as strong, but only slightly less performance. Also, we have only mentioned the base engines. 4th generation models had optional 360 hp 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and a 470 hp 6.4-liter Hemi V8. The engines offer up to 7,200ft of towing power. With a Jeep Grand Cherokee, they look for power as much as they do style.

Upon first glance, the Grand Cherokee seems like it is only an on-road vehicle. Looks can be deceiving as this car is just as capable off-road as it is on the road. Offering between 260-645lb-ft of torque depending on the engine, it has more than enough power to climb out of most holes their competitors wouldn’t even dream of finding themselves in. It does not stop there. Some models come with air ride suspension. This feature raises the distance between the chassis and the ground. It goes as high as a total of 4.1in, giving the car a distance of 10 inches from the ground. This makes the car far more capable off-road and helps protect the underside of the car from any kicked-up rocks. The Jeep Grand Cherokee might be classified as a luxury SUV, but it is not afraid to get down and dirty.

Jeep Cherokee (4th Generation)

We want to make sure that our list features used Jeeps that are not just great but affordable too. The Jeep Cherokee is a model similar to the Grand Cherokee, except for one major thing: pricing. For example, a used 2017 Jeep Cherokee can cost around $20,000, whereas a used 2017 Grand Cherokee is roughly about $28,000 or higher, depending on trim. There is a clear difference in price between the two Jeeps that, on the surface, look identical. The difference is not because the Grand Cherokee is just that much better. It might take a bit of examining, but the pricing is well warranted.

The Cherokee is a compact crossover SUV, while the Grand Cherokee is a larger midsize SUV. This means that the cars are made with different design philosophies. The Cherokee is designed to be a more fuel-efficient, compact vehicle. With a smaller car comes a slightly less powerful engine. The base engine is a 184 hp 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine. The other options are a 271-hp 3.2-liter V6 and a newly released 270-hp 2.0-liter turbo engine. Comparing it to the specs of the Grand Cherokee, the performance difference is noticeable. Alongside the size and performance, the Cherokee does not come with many of the luxury options found in the Grand Cherokee.

Does this mean the Cherokee is an inferior vehicle? Not at all! It still provides a similar drive experience. It seats the same amount of people and looks almost identical to the Grand Cherokee. The Cherokee is a more affordable option for consumers, and it does that job well, so look for models in the 4th generation (2014 – present). This car is also still highly revered amongst car enthusiasts. For those reasons, we couldn’t resist putting it on the list!
