The Jeep Test Track

Taking a test drive is a vital part of any new or used car purchase. No matter how good a vehicle looks on paper or sitting in the dealership lot, you will never really know if it is the right choice for you until you can take it for a drive and put it through its paces. Now for normal cars doing this is a simple matter. All you have to do is take it out on the road for a few minutes, and you will have a fairly good idea about whether it will work for you. However, if you are shopping for an adventurous off-road vehicle like a Jeep, then spending your test drive cruising on the blacktop will not really help you determine if it is a machine that you will want to trust on tricky backcountry trails. Unfortunately, with other Jeep dealerships, you do not really have any choice in the matter and will simply have to get as good a feeling for the vehicle as you can with a basic test drive on the roads.

But to us here at Faricy Chrysler Jeep, not allowing our customers to get a true feel for their vehicles in their natural environment before asking for their money was simply unacceptable. That is why we have constructed our very own off-road Jeep Test Track here on a corner of our property. With over an acre of trails and obstacles to drive through, over, and around, this test track has been carefully designed to demonstrate all the key aspects that make for an excellent off-road vehicle. The track includes water fording, four-wheel drive traction tests, elevation changes, and rocky and uneven terrain. By the end of a lap on our test track, you will understand exactly what sets Jeep apart from the crowd and be able to buy with confidence.

Jeep Trail Rated

However, if you are new to Jeeps, then you might have noted that the use of our Jeep Test Track is limited to Trail Rated vehicles, and you might be wondering what this means. While any Jeep will easily handle bad weather and back roads, Trail Rated is a special badge that is only applied to the most capable Jeep models that can meet Jeep’s rigorous standards for off-road performance.

These standards test five key capabilities that make or break an off-road vehicle: traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation, and ground clearance. Not coincidentally, our Jeep Test Track has been carefully designed to demonstrate those same five components of off-road performance. Testing of the Jeep Trail Rated models is conducted primarily at the famed Rubicon Trail in California, and the highest performance Jeep trims carry that name as a token of their capability. However, the Trail Rated badge is not awarded for just a few runs of a single trail, and includes testing across multiple climates from the cold and snowy north to the hot and sandy desert and is also backed up by careful engineering and detailed computer modeling. The result of this extensive testing is that when you step into a Trail Rated Jeep, you can rest assured that it will take you anywhere that you might want to go.

Which Jeeps have a Trail Rated badge? Currently, all six Jeep models offer at least one trim that carries the badge, so if there is a Jeep that you like, we can get you a version of it that is ready for off-road adventures straight out of the box. For the Jeep Renegade, Jeep Compass, Jeep Cherokee, and Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Trail Rated badges are found on the Trailhawk trim levels. While on the outside, these may look just like any other trim of the vehicles, the Trail Rated trims have beefed up the suspension to carry you over obstacles, standard metal skid plates to protect the vehicle’s undercarriage from damage, and improved protection from the elements to enable water fording. They also usually come with other upgrades such as more powerful engines, more capable four-wheel drive systems, and tow hooks to get you or your companions out of trouble.

If you are looking for a Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Gladiator, then you are in luck because every trim of these iconic and highly capable vehicles comes standard with a Trail Rated Badge. Of course, if you want maximum off-road performance, then the Rubicon trims of these two vehicles will still be the best option with their advanced systems tailor-made for technical off-roading.

Rock Solid Trail Day

While our Jeep Test Track sets up apart from other dealers, it is still just another tool to help our customers make the right choice when buying a Jeep. We have seen up to forty-five different Jeeps at one of these events, allowing everyone to understand just how strong and friendly the Jeep community that they have joined is.

Together, we have explored numerous local trails all around the Colorado Springs area, including Hackett Gulch, China Wall, Spring Creek, Medano Pass, Metberry Gulch, and La Salle Pass. These trails range from basic to advanced, but we make sure that everyone has had a good time regardless of their skill level or their vehicles’ abilities. By working together, we do our best to make sure that when the day is over, everyone has had a chance to experience the joys of off-roading and will leave with a better understanding of exactly what they and their Jeep are capable of.
