What to Do Before Selling Your Car

When you are ready to sell your vehicle, there are a few things you should do first to make the process as simple as possible. For starters, make sure you gather up everything you have that came with the vehicle, including all of the documentation and accessories. If you removed the original floor mats to replace them with your custom ones, for example, then put the originals back in. Ensure you have your owner’s manual and other information, including the title for your vehicle.

One of the most important things you should do before selling your vehicle is give it a good clean inside and out. While you cannot undo years of wear and tear, a thorough cleaning will help your car look better and ensure you do not accidentally leave anything inside after you sell it. Do not worry about making repairs to the vehicle before you sell it to us. Since we have a service center here at our dealership, we can handle any maintenance or work that needs to be done for less money than it will cost you, so there is not much benefit for you doing it.

What You Need When Selling Your Car

Along with the title for the vehicle, you will need a photo ID as well as any maintenance and service records you have for your car. Please note that if there are multiple people on the title, then each person listed there will need to print and sign their name as sellers on the title. Be careful when filling out any of the information on the title as errors can create problems, so fill it out carefully and use blue or black ink since it is a legal document.

If you still owe money on a loan for your vehicle, and the title is not free and clear, then be sure to bring along any documentation you have for the loan.
