Why You Need Transmission Service

Too many people think that they only need to have their vehicle maintained when the “check engine” light comes on or their car starts making strange noises. In reality, routine maintenance like a transmission service is very important and should be performed on a regular schedule. You can find information about how often you need a transmission service performed in the owner’s manual of your vehicle.

The transmission in your Jeep or your other vehicle basically sends power from your engine to the drive wheels and components that actually move your vehicle. As you can imagine, this is a very important task – it is also very demanding, and daily driving creates heat and friction within your transmission. Transmission fluid is used to keep all of these moving parts cooled and lubricated so that they are not damaged by friction or heat buildup. Over time, this fluid needs to be replaced, as do other parts of your transmission system, which occurs during transmission service.

Types of Transmission Service

Assuming your transmission is still in good working order, most transmission service focuses on replacing the fluid within your transmission. During a routine transmission service, about half of your transmission fluid will be changed, and in some cases, the pan on your transmission (if your vehicle has one) will be cleaned, and the filter is cleaned or replaced. During a fluid flush, nearly all of your transmission fluid is flushed out and replaced – and in some cases, these procedures can be combined to replace all your fluid and also replace your transmission’s filter.

Transmission service can also include more thorough replacements and work on your transmission system overall. If your vehicle is having issues shifting gears, then parts of your transmission or the entire thing might need to be replaced. We can also provide transmission service on manual transmissions and inspect your clutch disc, flywheel, and other components to make sure everything is working properly. Finally, once the transmission service is complete, we will take your vehicle for a quick test drive to make sure it handles properly.
