Three Signs You’re Buying a Great Used Wrangler

The 2016 Jeep Wrangler can now be found at the brand's dealerships, and you know what that means... the 2015 Wrangler will now start littering used car lots. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as last year's model was one of the most capable and stylish vehicles in the nameplate's history. Furthermore, you can expect a deal on a used Wrangler, considering another owner has been driving the Jeep for the past year.

However, how do you determine if the targeted Wrangler is worth the purchase? If you come across a used Jeep Wrangler for sale, use our guide below to determine whether or not it's a great buy...

The Wrangler Has Advanced Driving Capabilities…

If you're considering a used Jeep, you should definitely give it a test drive. After all, this is the only way you can truly determine if the handling and drivability of the vehicle is right for you. You'll be frustrated if you purchase the vehicle and then realize that the Jeep isn't the perfect fit. You can avoid this issue by giving the targeted Wrangler a quick ride around the block.

So what should you be looking for while test driving? You should initially notice the vehicle's incredible power. If you're looking at a 2015 model, you can expect the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which can pump out 285 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque. While you won't be able to determine these exact specs when driving, you should at least expect a considerable amount of power and pick up from the Jeep. You should also keep an eye on the gas mileage when test driving the vehicle. The Pentastar engine can deliver 17 city/21 highway mile per gallon fuel efficiency, so make sure the used Jeep's economy is at least lined up with those reported specs.

It's unlikely that the used Jeep's owner is going to allow you to take their vehicle on an off-road hike. However, you should at least attempt to drive through a variety of different terrains, as the Wrangler was specially designed to trek through snow, mud, sand and rock. Of course, the Command Trac Four-Wheel-Drive system also contributes to those capabilities, and you should notice advanced traction, regardless of where you're driving. The shock absorbers will be helpful when traveling over rocks or bumps (so perhaps target an area that includes these features), and the front and rear axels will further help accentuate that previously-mentioned traction.

As Well as Dependable Safety Features

One of the most important aspects of a vehicle are the safety features, and this is especially important in Jeeps. If you're intending on using your Jeep for more than commuting, you'll want to make sure that every aspect of the Wrangler is working properly. You don't want to realize the lack of safety features after you've already gotten into an off-roading accident.

If you're eying a 2015 model, you shouldn't expect the safety features to be compromised after a year on the road. The best way to assure they're all working to the best of their abilities is by sending the targeted Jeep to a trusted mechanic. They'll be able to determine whether any of these safety features is faulty.

So what safety features does the Jeep Wrangler include? There are a number of technological features that are exclusive to Jeep and the Wrangler. The Hill Start Assist mode will ensure that your vehicle won't roll backward as you're attempting to climb a hill, and the Hill Descent Control will keep tabs on the throttle, speed and braking as you're traveling back down. Meanwhile, the Electronic Stability Control ensures that your vehicle will stay on its intended path, and if you're hauling along some cargo, the Trailer Sway Control will also assure that your trailer is also staying on course. The Wrangler also includes a Tire Pressure Monitoring Display System and a Sentry Key Engine System, meaning you'll be the only person who can access and operate the Wrangler.

The Jeep has several common safety features that have been meticulously produced to provide ideal protection for all of the vehicle's occupants. These features include advanced multistage front airbags (with a deployment monitoring system based on the severity of the impact), side-supplemental airbags, a sturdy body-on-frame construction, and on-road/off-road four-wheel disc Antilock Brakes. The Jeep Wrangler truly has it all in regards to safety... just make sure all of these features are properly working in your targeted used Jeep.

It Also Has a Luxurious Interior and Exterior Style

The Wrangler's stylish design is one of its most important attributes. The interior and exterior certainly account for the vehicle's price tag, so if similar aspects of your targeted Jeep aren't up to par, you may want to negotiate a lower price.

The interior should include features and technology to make your ride more comfortable and entertaining. For example, the Noise, Vibration and Harshness protection will decrease the amount of engine noise that creeps into the cabin, presenting the driver with a peaceful, quiet journey. There are luxurious heated, leather-trimmed front seats, as well as an illuminated cup holder and footwell.

The Uconnect System (with Navigation by Garmin) ensures that the driver will never get lost, and the occupants can listen to the commands via the Alpine Premium Sound System. Other interior features include Automatic Temperature Control, a lockable center storage area, and drain plugs, meaning you can easily wash our your Wrangler without worrying about flooding.

On the outside, a customer should expect the iconic Jeep look, including a large seven-slot grille, stylish fender flares, and removable doors and roof. You should find high-efficiency fog lamps up front, and you should also find a towing hook in the back (which will partner well with the Wrangler's 2000-pound towing capacity).
