Jeep’s Newest Edition: 2016 Backcountry
The Wrangler Backcountry is made for snow lovers, and while that may not be you, yet, the Backcountry’s power will having you long to barrel through snow-filled streets and make your way gleefully through a wintery scene. The Backcountry has a unique off-road front bumper and special powder coated rear bumper. Riding on 17-inch wheels and rock rails from the Award winning Wrangler Rubicon, these are guaranteed to keep you and your loved ones safe on the road in any wintry conditions.
The interior features piano-black trim, leather and mesh seats with vinyl accents. A nine speaker Alpine sound system keeps audio sounds crisp and clear whether streaming live or using Bluetooth connectivity.
What would a special winter edition be without a creative exterior color palate? With five colors to choose from, Hydro Blue, Black, Bright White, Granite Crystal and Xtreme Purple, you’re sure to stand out no matter the sleepy winter village you drive through.
2016 Grand Cherokee SRT Night
While the Grand Cherokee has been lowered to give a more aggressive look, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Night bears a look even more sleek and ‘stealthy’ that it’s already designed to. Making bold statements across its exterior are strategically placed glossy black appointments that show up on the roof, rear spoiler, front grille bezels, B and C pillars as well as the side window surrounds. Covered in a satin finish are the all new, lightweight, 20-inch split five spoke wheels, also black and designed to showcase the SRT8 Brembo brakes.
The interior, you could guess, is also done in black. Black Laguna leather with silver accents offer a stark contrast to the exterior color pallet: Velvet Red, Billet Silver, and Granite Crystal all look both sharp and luxurious.
Extra Grand Cherokee features include dual panel sunroof, dual screen rear entertainment system and a trailer tow package.
The SRT Night is powered by the stock 6.4L HEMI V8 that delivers an aggressive 475 horsepower. Adaptive damping suspension and Selec-Track Traction Control system also come standard on the Grand Cherokee Night. An engine like this is going to deliver more than enough power to solidly get you safely through any wintery night regardless of your climate.
2014 Wrangler Polar Edition
Only two short years ago Jeep decided it needed to keep the chilly nights alive in our driveway, so they created the Polar Edition. Dedicated to all things North Pole, albeit eight tiny reindeer, the Polar Edition is fit to keep you warm even in the coldest environments and chilliest nights.
Available in two and four door configurations, one of it’s most unique features are the badges which showcase its latitude and longitude location namesake. That is to say that if you were to map the location of the given latitude and longitude, it would bring you to the place where the most severe temperature was ever recorded on Earth: Antarctica. Jeep chose this specifically to serve as a reminder that their vehicles are meant to go everywhere on this planet, even the in the most severe temperatures.
The 2014 Polar Edition is complimented with a whole host of mechanical components that help it maintain control in severe climates and icy conditions. Coming standard is a Trac-Lok anti-spin rear differential that can be combined with available electronic locker inside the Dana 44 axle. Up front, a Dana 30 is turned by the part-time Command-trac NV241, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72-to-1 low range. Automatic climate control, heated front seats, always appreciated in the freezing climates, and Electronic Vehicle Information Center are all included and smart for winter driving. Same drivetrain as other Wrangler’s, 3.6L Pentastar V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 lb/ft of torque. Drivers can choose a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.
2012 Arctic Edition
In 2012, when Jeep was having a hayday with special editions, they were mostly celebrating warm climates like the Mojave or Islander. However, that same year Jeep introduced another edition, one for the snow bunnies and snowmen in us all: the Arctic Edition.
Looks wise, the Arctic is available in two or four door configurations and sits on 17-inch wheels wrapped in the Rubicon’s hunky 32-inch tires. Adorning the body are “Arctic” fender badges, a body-colored roof and fender flares, black fuel door, tail light guards, hood strip and special “yeti footprint” decals on the fender and hood. While the exterior body comes available in three colors, Bright Silver, Bright White and Winter Chill, the various blacked out elements on the exterior offer a stark contrast.
Even though you won’t be feeling the cold air this winter, the interior which is suited for the toughest temperatures. Heavy duty heated black cloth seats outlined in orange stitching and piping matches the warm leather steering wheel. Arctic logos can be found on the front seat backrests and slush-ready floor mats.
Powering this beast through the wintery snow-laden streets, trails and mountain tracks is the Pentastar V6 engine that is backed by a 6-speed manual transmission. An optional 5-speed automatic is available, as well.
The 2012 Arctic Edition was also made available in the Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4. Along with the Wrangler, the Liberty received the same fender badges while the hood decal is unique and misses the opportunity to celebrate any snowy mythical beasts. A few more appointments are added to the interior of the Liberty which the Wrangler missed out on: heated and power-adjustable seats with vinyl bolsters, nine-speaker Infinity audio system with a touchscreen. Also, the price on the Arctic Liberty is a bit lower than the Wrangler and Unlimited. However, the Liberty doesn’t get the Pentastar, but a 3.7L V6 is certainly nothing to complain about.
